CHANGE FROM THE HOT DOG VENDER

 

 

A famous Rebbe from Lithuania, known for his Mussar teachings (spiritual and personal growth), is visiting New York City's Lower East side for the first time. It is in the very late 1800s.

 

He goes up to a kosher hot dog vender on the street and says "Please make me one with everything.''

 

The hot dog vender fixes the hot dog and hands it to the Rebbe who pays for the 25 cent sandwich with a $5 bill. The vendor puts the bill in the cash box and closes the lid.

 

"Excuse me, but where is my change?' asks the famous Mussar Rebbe.

 

The vendor replies: "Rebbe: Haven't you taught us that change must come from within?''
