RABBI ARTHUR SEGAL: PRAYER FOR LIVELIHOOD :EX 15:4: GOD GAVE US MANNA

Shalom:

With all the talk about the economy and with so many disemployed, I am reminded of an old Jewish tradition to say a special prayer for one's livelihood each day. For those that do not do this prayer daily, the tradition tells us to recite the prayer during the week that the Torah portion is read about God giving the Israelites manna for 40 years in the Wilderness. Jews across the globe recite this portion of the Torah, which includes Exodus 15:4, this year on Saturday February 4, 2012. {...I shall rain down for you food from heaven...}

"May it be the will before You, Lord our God, and the God of our forefathers, that You provide a livelihood for all peoples, the House of Israel, and my livelihood and the livelihood of the members of my household included with them, with ease and not with pain, with honor and not disgrace, in a permissible manner and not in a forbidden manner, so that we will be able to perform Your service, and study Your Torah, just as You nourished our forefathers, with manna in the wilderness, in a land arid and desolate. Amen."
