Island School Council for the Arts' Rising Stars

On Saturday, March 14, Youth Arts Fest returns to the Arts Center with a day of festivities to put the spotlight on our area youth in the visual and performing arts. In celebration of National Youth Arts Month, the Arts Center has once again teamed up with the Island School Council for the Arts (ISCA) to bring the community a fun-filled afternoon of food, arts and crafts beginning on the Arts Center grounds at noon, followed by ISCA's Rising Stars Talent Competition at 2pm (a ticketed event, details below).

The Second Annual Rising Stars competition brings to the stage the brightest young performers in southern Beaufort County. Budding actors, dancers, musicians, and singers will take the stage in the final round of the competition in the Arts Center of Coastal Carolina's Elizabeth Wallace Theater, Saturday, March 14.

An esteemed panel of judges for the Rising Stars youth performing arts talent competition will be on hand, representing the major arts organizations in the area. The event's emcee is Miss Hilton Head Island, the lovely and talented Kate McKinney.

"We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors to the incredibly creative and inspiring world of youth arts with the Talent Show as the Grand Finale, Saturday, March 14," stated Patti Maurer, President of the Island School Council for the Arts. "Not only will the audience enjoy the thoroughly entertaining acts that encompass the spectrum of performing arts, but they will be able to view a number of impressive visual masterpieces created by 3rd-12th grade students on display in the Bank of America Community Room before the show. These works of art were part of our Promising Picassos exhibit that began in February."

President and CEO of the Arts Center Kathleen Bateson, said, "We are thrilled to be teaming up with ISCA – one of our frequent partners on numerous ventures – to bring Youth Arts Fest to the community. ISCA's Rising Stars on the main stage will showcase the performing arts, and our audience will be in for a real treat based on the wealth of talent that we have in our greater community."

First place prizes are generously sponsored by Rabbi Dr. Arthur and Ellen Segal Charitable Trust for the Arts. [ www.jewishspiritualrenewal.org]  The remaining prize money was generously donated by the Speer Family Foundation.

Tickets for ISCA's Rising Stars talent competition are $20 for adults and $10 for students ages 15 and under. They may be purchased at the Arts Center box office at 843-842-ARTS (2787) or online at www.artshhi.com .
